Community Impact

United Way of LaPorte County impacts your community by bringing health and human service programs to LaPorte County that unite area nonprofits. There are several programs that are a part of our Community Impact Initiative. These programs are designed to get at the root causes of problems so that people in need can lead more productive, self-sufficient lives. Giving to the United Way of LaPorte County Community Fund is the most powerful way to invest in your community. Your gift is used to fund 34 programs from our 21 partner agencies. Funds are distributed based on community need as assessed by a local, volunteer Allocation Committee.

Recipient Testimonials

A Mother in Need

Kim was scared for her life and in a very dark place.  Because of United Way funded agency Stepping Stone Shelter, she found help and a safe place.  Through the agency’s programs and her “Drill Sergeant with a heart” Caseworker Diana Gore (left), Kim was able to turn her life around and be a better and loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.  She credits the staff with saving her life.

House Fire Victims

After a house fire that destroyed everything they owned, the Turner family, pictured with United Way donor Jim Stemmler, received help from several United Way agencies, including The American Red Cross, Sand Castle Shelter and The Salvation Army of Michigan City. This support system enabled them to stay together, rebuild their lives and move into a new home.

Community Girl Scouts

Through their participation in Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana, another United Way sponsored program, these LaPorte County girls learn how to share, work as a team and make good life choices.
